NetSnap Support DocumentI am behind a firewall and the announcer will not connect to the server In order for the announcer service to work properly it needs to be able to contact the NetSnap registration server. If you are behind a firewall this may be a problem, depending on how your firewall is configured. Ask your administrator to configure the firewall so that the NetSnap machine is allowed to establish outgoing connections, and is allowed to receive HTTP requests from the Internet. If your machine is not visible to the Internet you will not be able to use the HTTP service to send live images. Every firewall is configured differently, so check with your Firewall vendor on how to perform the configuration. A commonly used firewall is the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router. This advanced firewall uses NAT (Network Address Translation) with support for Forwarding incoming requests on specific ports. To configure this firewall for use with NetSnap, use your web browser to log into the Firewall configuration menu and follow these steps:
Note: You may use a port other than 81, such as 82, 83, 84, 86, 87. Do not use port 85 as that is used by the lookup service. Further, the NetSnap machine must use a fixed IP number from the Linksys router configured net, dont use DHCP on that machine, since you are specifiying which IP number the incoming requests are forwarded to.
